Ever wonder how people are able to grow their Pinterest?
I often wondered myself when I first started blogging and have people asking me the same question so I thought why not do a simple post describing what helped me.

How many Pins per day should I be pinning? Is there a certain number that I should be doing?
I love Pinterest so I am on it every day. To be successful on Pinterest I truly believe you need to be pinning everyday. I never even count how many times I pin. Its important to just to be yourself and pin as much as you like the key really is just being consistent. I am a manual Pinner but you can always automate the process by using Tailwind. I signed up for their free trial but enjoy manually pinning so I never automated it. Perhaps try both and see what works for you. Make sure you are doing a combination of pinning your own items & pinning others. Pinterest seems to like diversity and also figure out your niche. Mine has been french country & cottage decor so I have been doing well sticking to those two niches.

What keywords should I use to get my pins noticed?
Remember pinterest is a search engine so people will typically be searching for a particular thing. You want to provide helpful detailed descriptions! I’ve found Pins with descriptions drive more clicks to my website than those without. If your objective is to drive clicks, use the description to hint that there’s more to see on your website. A strong call to action—like “shop,” “find,” or “buy”—will encourage people to take the next step. For example, if you’re a food blogger with a Christmas recipe, use words like “Christmas” and “recipe.” I did a post with the photo below over the Christmas Holidays so I used red christmas trucks as one of my keywords to get my post noticed.

Should I have a business acount?
Absolutely it doesn’t cost you a thing and it really helps in getting your content seen. I started off with a personal account and switched over very easily. Just go to Pinterest and sign up then I would recommend checking out your analytics which provides information about the people who follow your boards, saw your Pins, or interacted with your content in some way. And, don’t forget about your followers too. They are your community on Pinterest! I am always checking to see what my followers are liking so I can do more posts & pins that my audience seems to like. Below are my actual numbers for the month of September 2018 these analytics on Pinterest are free and lets you see where your audience is coming from. How can you beat free right?
4. Should you repin existing Pins through Pinterest or Pin directly from your website?
You always want to share the ideas you create with your following on Pinterest as much as possible! Did you know there are more than 200 million people that use Pinterest every month? Crazy huh? A couple of tips—you can Pin to multiple boards if it’s relevant but save it to the most relevant board first since that Pin will get distribution priority. Dont go overboard though and put the same pin on every board you have! Keep it relevant I like to usually pin the same original pin to know more than 3 boards. Also, it’s okay to link multiple Pins to the same destination. In fact, it’s good to save a variety of images that appeal to different types of Pinners. Just make sure to add specific descriptions for each Pin—it’ll improve your SEO!
5. Are there any insider tips on how to get discovered on Pinterest?
Absolutely! If you are a content creator, Pinterest can be a valuable tool in helping you build your brand, so I’ll share with you a few tricks to make sure you have all the tips on-hand to grow your business on Pinterest.
First, It’s important to remember to authentically grow your following because Pinterest distributes your content to your followers first to figure out what’s resonating. From there they distribute the best performing Pins to other people who are looking for ideas like yours. If you build an authentic audience that engages with your content on Pinterest, this will help grow the distribution of your content. A few of of the best ways to grow a following on Pinterest are:
- Share your Pins with your audience through social, email or other distribution channels. Driving people directly to your Pins builds engagement and helps your Pins gain momentum (yippee!)
- Add the follow button on your website to encourage your biggest fans to follow you on Pinterest without leaving your site
- Also, lean into trends (have you seen Pinterest top 100 trends to try this year?) You can start saving Pins that are relevant to upcoming trends, seasons and holidays around 45 days in advance. And, Pinterest just launched my favorite new feature called the following tab—it’s one of the best ways to discover new ideas on Pinterest now and and see the latest Pins from all the people you follow, in the order they save them.
I hope these 5 tips will help you gain some followers & business on Pinterest. If you have any specific questions, comments or just want to say hello be sure to send me a message & follow me on Pinterest. Happy Pinning!
